People often think Deep Tissue is painful because it is deep, but, it need not be. It treats deep tension and imbalance. It can be deeply relaxing and the benefit for chronic conditions is best seen over a course of treatments.
This style of treatment aims to address the deeper layers of tissue and fascia. Techniques can include the use of forearms, elbows and knuckles. It is wrongly assumed that ‘deep’ means painful. Deep tissue can be very effective in gently releasing long term chronic build up of deep tension, tissue adhesions, and fascial patterns which pervade to keep the body posture locked in self-perpetuating patterns. We all fight the forces of habit and gravity everyday, which can oppose our whole body functioning. Deep tissue can help release these patterns. Saying this, it is worth considering a less penetrating therapy such as holistic massage, if you are new to massage, have recently had a serious illness or prefer a lighter touch.
